Dungeon 3 Turn 47
————
Ricki stops fighting the bats (which attack her again as she leaves, but deal no damage) and joins Kamau at the top of the chapel. Kamau picks up the rope and ties it to the frayed one, lowering it down through the hole in the floor. It descends all the way to the bottom of the room below, and it looks plenty sturdy enough to climb up or down.
Kamau also spares a quick glance at the chest and confirms that, yes, it’s a puzzle chest that cannot be opened by any means other than figuring out the secret trigger.

Kamau: lift Ricki up from the ladder to see if she can crawl through the fallen bell.
Ricki: if you can’t squeeze through the bell, shout hello through the grate and ask if she needs help.
Questions to ask:
Nevermind
Ricki: Shoot the chest with a holy bolt
1% chance this works, 0% risk if it doesn’t. May also consider throwing the chest down to the floor and trying to get a sunhead to shoot it, or exposing it to sunlight, or
It reminds me playing ADOM and kicking a chest to open it, only to find out that it contained an explosive potion or a similar very handy item that definitely shouldn’t have been smashed. No, please, definitely do not drop the chest into the hole in the floor.
Shooting it with a holy bolt.. ah.. maybe. It shouldn’t damage the contents in any way. But I agree that it has 1% chance of succeeding, so it’s somewhat waste of a turn.
If we want to use up a turn/action like that, I’d try shooting the undamaged bell via grate. Just for the kicks. I think it may result in a more interesting chat with the drow. And maybe something elsewhere will react if the bell emits any sounds, even without all pieces of the rope there yet.
The ball of light is small, makes 1 dmg, so I doubt it makes any damage to the bell, and I doubt the drow will panic and jump and kill herself. I hope so. Ok. Maybe we don’t do that. Ok. So don’t kick the chest, don’t drop it into the hole, and don’t shoot the bell. Just have a chat with the drow. Polite chat.
I think we should consider one thing. We came here to repair the bell and complete the dungeon. But what if the drow damaged them intentionaly? Repairing them will go against that. There’s a chance we’ll have to decide: get friendly with the lady, or fix the bell. If we stand before such a choice, I say: pick the drow. We’ll have more dungeons. We won’t have more drow ladies.
So talk to her asap, learn if she doesn’t minds activating the bells back.
You activate the bell by pulling the rope.
Ricki- Tell Kamau there’s a smoking dark lady elf upstairs and introduce yourself to her. Ask if she is stuck and if she wants to borrow a rope so she can come down and help fix the bellringer since you made it longer. And if she knows anything about the very shiny gold chest. And show her your cool hat!
Kamau- Pull the bellringer rope to ring the bell. Hopefully it stops the graveyard from spawning. Tell Ricki about the history of dark skinned elves.
Edit: Tell elf to cover her ears if we ring the bell.
