Dungeon 1 Turn 38
————
Ricki pauses by the sewer grate and runs through all the things she’s thought of to say to Kamau. She’ll tell him that he isn’t as bad as he thinks he is. That he still has something to offer to the world. That dying here would accomplish nothing. That she might still need his help. That she’ll try to help him even if he tries to stay.
She carefully orders it all in her mind, and just as she finally has it right and is ready to open her mouth and speak…
“You need to hurry up and leave, Ricki. The guards will be making their rounds any moment now.”
“I’ll stay here and buy you some more time to get away. There’s a chance they’ll forget all about you once they see me loose, but just in case, you should—”
“…You don’t have to do this.”
Ricki and Kamau leave the jail together.
Dungeon 1 is complete!
Hey, I’ll fuckin take it. Who needs a speech?
It was a good speech!
Even better!
His kid? Someone else’s kid he was protecting? I’m glad it worked out either way. But now my mission is to make sure he never feels like getting killed again!
My guess would be that it’s his kid. Who possibly doesn’t live any more (which probably would make him feel like a failure and would also explain why he doesn’t care much about what happens to him). The whole vibe of the scene reminds me of the intro in Assassin’s Creed Origins.
I really like how fluffy the woolly hat of the kid looks. I’m not entirely sure what the green dot is supposed to be, though. A gem or other decorative bauble? For an eye, it seems to be too high/too immersed into the wool hat…
Hat? Don’t you think that’s her hair? And the green dot is a barrette or something similar?
I do think you’re right that it’s his own kid that Ricki reminds him of. And that she’s probably dead and he feels like that’s his fault 🙁
Also let’s have Ricki upgrade her lockpicking skill so she gets more than one use out of a thieves tools set xP
Because it is the end of the Dungeon: DungeonDoctor’s map is at https://lucid.app/lucidchart/0b7c14d3-ba45-4f39-8c6b-c5fd256792c6/view?page=0_0#
And: Try those keys on the ball & chain already. Avoid traps. Get rid of that sword when it is more dangerous to be seen with it than it is useful to wield it.
Also: Congratulations, Ricki!
