Dungeon 1 Turn 35
————
Deciding that there’s no more time to waste, Ricki helps Kamau avoid the traps so he can charge to the bottom level of the central room and engage the rats. They run for him as soon as he sets foot on the lower floor, which helps him set up Ricki’s plan. He lures them over near the ladder and instantly kills one of the two dire rats. Ricki then pushes the table down the shaft and crushes one of the smaller rats.
Kamau takes some damage from the rat’s attacks, seemingly enough to take Ricki out immediately, but he looks okay to keep fighting. At least for another couple of turns.
Ricki continues to store up all the ideas that come to her as to how she can convince Kamau to leave the jail. Time is short, but she’s going to take as much of it as she can.
I know you remember my speech, Ricki. It was a good speech. Use that. I… don’t want to type it out a third time though. Oh, also maybe backstab a rat while Mr. Ironwall defends for you.
Lets let Kamau finish off the rats, then we can give him our shpiel
Throw a dagger/sword at one of the rats. Don’t get in yet, but we need to help our buddy here.
Preferably have Ricki throw the imperial sword (we have to discard it after this dungeon anyway).
Kamau should kill the other dire rat (iirc, they do more damage than a single normal rat, and if he can one-hit them, he’ll lower the damage received next round considerably). And start to realize that he is growing fond of his new little goblin companion. 😉
If I read LSN right (especially the last line of this update), he’s collecting everything we are suggesting, speech wise and then will pick whichever he likes the best, so anyone who wants to, should bring up more/new ideas or wordings.
#speech Ricki: “Look, big guy. I don’t know what you did to make you think you deserve jail, and unless you actually -want- to, you’ll never have to tell me. But in this short time we’ve known each other, you have been nothing but kind and helpful to me, even though I am a complete stranger to you. You’re alright in my book.
And the thing is… I don’t know what to expect in these sewers here, what dangers could still be lurking for me there, and I’m still in a horrible shape. So, if you could find it in you to please come along and lend your help to me a little longer, I would truly appreciate it. And if not, I’d like to at least thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the help you already have given to me. It has been invaluable and I don’t want to know where I’d be now without it.”
If Kamau has a problem killing all the rats, Ricki should definitely jump in to help him out. He’s her new friend after all! And friends help each other!
Can you open the grate once the rats are dead?
Is there anything else worth looting before leaving
Pickup any rat tails if any drop after the fight. Thank Kamau for everything and say that he is a good person and deserves a second chance to keep doing good things for others.
So it’s confirmed he can take out a dire rat with one hit. With a broken sword. Imagine his dmg if he was at best…. and he still lost. Man when kamau said he used to believe strength was all you needed, he wasn’t lying. The way the fight is going, it won’t take long. I say Ricki, don’t beat around the bush. Be adamant. Lets hear his story. Ask him directly. If he still doesn’t want to talk we could threaten staying to die along with him to force his hand. :/
Maybe show Kamau the note about extorting a higher ‘bail’ for Ricki? Like, he seems to be down on himself, but whatever else he did, the people who are keeping him here are actively using their power to abuse the population. More than that, they don’t care about the law. Ricki found the core of the fruit she stole, so it wasn’t returned, she was just punished for needing to eat, while the fruit-seller still lost out.
Kamau’s execution might not matter to him, but it does matter to the guards. It’s a show of force, a way to scare people and keep them in line. Even if he doesn’t want to live, does he want to die for the sake of the guard, who so clearly do so much wrong? Why not strive to live, or even to die, out in the world making changes? Just by doing it, he might be able to take back some of the harm he feels he’s done.
Also, let’s be real here, Ricki is a goblin. Odds are we’re dead in three dungeons anyway.
Can Ricki go get the top torch and throw or use it on a rat without getting hurt? Flank one of the small rats?
If the papers are set on fire will the rats scatter allowing for killing them one at a time?
At what point can Kamau block so Rikki can get past to open the grate? He held off 3 rats earlier.
Here’s an idea to perhaps incorporate into the speech. By accepting his death, he’s not being selfless and noble like he might think. It’s actually extremely selfish to think that he’s worse than everybody else and deserves this. Nobody is righteous, not one. Ricki, Kamau, the guards, everybody’s messed up in their own way. If Kamau deserves to die, then what, do they all deserve execution? Because following his attitude, they really should. How about instead, take the real selfless action and try and make up for it. Which you can only do by living, and to do that, you have to escape.
