Dungeon 1 Turn 33
————
Kamau blocks the second group of rats so Ricki can run past. She uses the cell keys to open the door, then takes the rusty longsword. She has two swords now, one which she has to get rid of and one which will get rid of itself sooner or later.
Should Ricki try to convince Kamau that he still has something to offer the world? Should she tell him she still needs his help? Should she show him the notes she found? Ricki can’t decide what to say. She doesn’t know what will work.
Ricki heads back to the ladder so Kamau can stop fighting the two rats.

A little of A, a little of B. Show him the notes, and work to convince him he can repent in better ways than letting himself get executed by a corrupt guard!
Agreed, maybe something like this could work:
“Hey, I saw these notes that say that you’re going to be executed and paraded through the town before the execution. I was put here for stealing a small amount of food. The guards let me starve in my cell, and on on top of that, the notes that I found around here say that even though someone was willing to pay the bail for me, the guards were still going to keep me here longer to ramp up the bail and ‘share the profits’. What kind crime could you hav e committed that these people have the moral high ground to parade you through half the town and then execute you publicly?”
If possible (trying to change someone’s mind might take everything you have in you, I guess, on Ricki’s side the convincing, one Kamau’s side the taking the heard stuff into account and changing your views), in addition to what Valiance said:
Ricki and Kamau make your way back to the room on the left (have Kamau shield Ricki from the rats on the top level of this room again, avoid the traps in the room to the left). (MOVEMENT)
Have Kamau pick up a torch and the non-descript papers from the table (leave the two pages with the interesting info for Ricki). Also, if talking with one another is a free action, then (only Ricki, since Kamau already did fight the rats in the first room, or together) bring the table down to the level with the rats, so you can set it on fire and distract some of the rats on the way to the sewer gate (preparation this turn. setting on fire etc. next turn).
We should keep the imperial sword and ditch the rusty sword, after all both will most likely be useless/gone after this dungeon, but one of them we can at least be sure it will last the whole dungeon.
Also we should make sure we can actually make it to the sewers and escape before we waste turns trying to convert kamau
atm we have inventory room for both. Until/Unless we find something more useful to take with us, we can keep both. 😉
Besides, even if swords are not exactly created as throwing weapons, maybe we can have Ricki throw one, then (next turn) the other at the lot of rats near the sewer gate. That way we might get the combat with them done faster without risking her getting hit (thus dying and ending the game/comic) on the way out.
Ah i misread the post
Does any one of the keys open the ball at Kamau’s foot? If so: get rid of the ball! Might carry it with you e.g. to drop it at rats, but there might arise a situation when you want to leave it behind, and you might not have the time to open the chain then.
Additionally to speaking with Kamau (speak and move at the same time): Go up one level, avoid the rats, maybe grab the torch (if Kamau has inventory space for it), avoid the trap, reach the ladders. Either go up and fetch the rat tail or move directly down to the unconscious guard. Avoid the trap there.
😉 On the way out: Remember to activate the Dungeon Self Destruction… https://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0118.html
definitely use the sword we have to get rid of.
if the rusty one breaks, we’re unarmed after this.
if not, we still have a weapon for a short time.
