Dungeon 1 Turn 32
————
Hoping to snag an extra weapon, Ricki and Kamau head back to cell block B. Kamau focuses on blocking attacks rather than attacking himself, allowing Ricki to run past the first group of rats without any risk of taking damage. Kamau also takes no damage because he’s amazing.
Ricki thinks about what she can say to Kamau to make him reconsider staying here, but she isn’t sure how to approach the topic.
Ok. Ricki, listen. Remember the speech that was vaguely in the back of your mind earlier? The speech that no matter what he’s done or what he feels he deserves, there’s no way he can make up for it if he’s in a jail cell? The same applies if he’s dead. He clearly cares about injustice or he wouldn’t be helping you. Well, a lot of people in the world need a lot of help. The guards are clearly corrupt. People are starving if you’re any indication. He doesn’t need to lead a revolution or anything but he’s an extremely capable individual in at least one capacity and that means he’s capable of helping people. If he really feels bad about what he’s done, there’s only one way to make it right and dying won’t balance the scales. It won’t make the world a better place. It’s just the easy thing to do. To make things right, he has to get up every day willing to try his best to help and for that he needs to be alive and free. Uh, talking is a free action, right?
Talking is not a free action I believe, but I think it is reasonable to think that kamau can hold a conversation while senator armstronging a bunch of rats
Seriously, Kamau. You gonna die a coward’s death on the gallows or you gonna do what’s necessary to change the world for the better?
Kamau: distract the second set of rats
Ricki: unlock the cell and grab the sword
Also Ricki: Share some of the sympathetic parts of your story, then say “so if you think you deserve to die, fine, but can you help me out for a few days first? I’m sure the guards will take you back any time.”
Oh, right, actual actions. Add the first two sentences of this post to my suggestion, please.
Tell kamau there may be more guards outside the sewer grate! That way he has to come along to keep his promise to help you escape!
Hmm… Maybe something like “I’m not asking you to join me, just to escape with me. I’m no good, I’m just trying to live, but you are good, you care. Even if you can’t fix mistakes, you can go out and do good, more good than these extortionist.” and show him the papers.
What matters here, I think, isn’t giving yourself a powerful ally, but making sure he lives.
