Dungeon 1 Turn 9
————
Ricki tries to jump off the ladder to reach the keys hanging on the wall, but she can’t quite reach.
Since falling down doesn’t count as an action, Ricki moves down and then makes a bonus move to the left, where she finds a mirrored version of the cell block she started in.
Lets see… 3 mice, but they’re distracted, a shiv in the top cell, some ronks, and a friend [tm] in the bottom cell but guarded by a dog and wearing a heavy ball and chain.
2nd floor has a mousetrap and it looks like theres a hole in the floor of cell 2 or something.
I think Ricki should go check out the rocks, carefully avoiding the little rats
Just note there’s also a rattrap one floor down.
If it’s possible to take out one rat while the rest remain distracted then we should.
Good eye with the traps! I think luring a rat into a trap if possible sounds like a splendid idea. We also have to bear in mind that LoneStar said we have to be mindful of each trap every time we pass one, so as long as someone mentions each trap Ricki might pass, even ones she’s already seen before, I think we’ll be fine. Since we’re thinking about the traps I kinda wonder what that thing on the floor is in the second cell down. We’ll get to that later after we figure out this obstacle, I suppose.
Proposed Action:
Sneak past the rats and down the ladder to inspect the big boxy thing with gray stuff on it.
Analysis:
Seems like the two thieves who were arguing sorted their problem out. Both dead and the knife left behind.
It looks like the ground of the middle cell has a thin spot.. This could be a trap, some sort of pressure plate type thing, or it might be a weak spot which we can break through and free the prisoner without fighting the dog?
The rats are distracted by the piece of cheese, it seems. If we don’t want to fight them, we should be able to sneak by. If we do fight them, we can take the cheese, but it might not be worth the damage we take in fighting them.
Toast the rats with the torch, so you can collect the cheese, and have toasted rat snacks to either feed to the dog as a distraction, or eat for yourself later if you get hurt.
I believe these rats are gonna have to be fought and not snuck past. Especially since if we’re going to be exploring this block, we’ll have to sneak past them again when we go back. Better to fight them now and not have to deal with them again later.
However, since the fire worked so well on the dire rat before I think you’re on the right track. And since we lit a table on fire and that seemed to be successful, I figure it’s possible you can get the jump on these guys if you light something else on fire. I propose the signboard. Ricki can either light it on fire to help fight against the rats or use it as a shield. Maybe.
Also agree with the toasted rat treats. Rats make a fine pet I’m sure, but they are also delicious, yes.
So none of these are official actions I’m proposing, but just brainstorming and spitballing some ideas for the rest of you guys. Even dumb ones.
-Use the signboard as a shield to replace the buckler.
-Lure the rats to the rat trap since she can’t move it on her own??
-Make a paper hat out of the notice about the rats.
-Find some sort of writing utensil to write a new message on the paper for the guards.
What do you guys think?
Also, since the guards confiscated fruits and lockpicks from Ricki but her lockpicks were a decoy, obviously it stands to reason that the fruits they confiscated from her were decoys, too, right? So maybe Ricki has real fruits at her disposal. Can’t hurt to check, right? We have to be extra careful, though, since the guards will have decoy fruits they can use as weapons! Obviously.
Use the new cheese to lure a big rat towards the cell door with the chiv, then throw the cheese through it so the rat to chew’s it (likely what happened to the metal bars of the guy with leather armor)
Definately investigate the rocks. They may be useful for various things in the dungeon.
Hm… stands to reason that the criminal with more security than you is more dangerous than you. Are they friendly, or dangerous though?
Also, are those… cannonballs? Are you strong enough to lift them?
Also mousetrap, on the floor below, watch out.
But I get ahead of myself, that cheese probably won’t last. Might be best to sneak attack the closest rat and hope the others will focus on the chance to get cheese rather than get you.
If you can use the sign as a shield (or to bludgeon the cluster) it might not be the worst idea.
Proposed action: Ricki, go back to the room to the right and up, the one with the chests where you splattered on the floor last round, climb up the ladder to the middle floor and sneak up to the table on the left. Read the papers and then take them with you. Also grab a second torch on the side of either of the ladders.
My reasoning:
Overall, I think that we need as much information as we can get and more equipment. With two torches and/or the papers, Ricki could be able to defeat the big rat that guards the chests. At the very least, the chests should contain some fruits and one set of thieves tools. Ricki needs both of those if she wants to get any further in the dungeon.
“Cell 1A – 2 burglars, caught arguing over loot. think one of em snuck in a shiv. let em work it out among themselves.” Obviousely they did.
“Cell 2A – kobold, held for drunk and disorderly conduct. release in morning.” So, morning has broken.
“Cell 3A – TRAITOR” The enemy of my enemy might be my friend.
Kobold may have also escaped, especially since there’s a notch in Cell 2A’s floor.
I think it’s worth checking accessible doors to see if they’re actually locked. Presumably 3A is, though with the ball and chain and the dog they might stay put even with an unlocked door.
If the brown object before cell 2A can easily be move upstairs and below the keys, do so! (avoiding the rats on your way.) If it is some heavy son of a ***, then don’t.
mouldy cheese makes non-goblin non-rats sick yes?
the dog counts.
might be wise to feed one to another.
probably not killing it like that, but it’d give us an edge in a fight
